Alvin Crow – Music Director
Alvin
Crow has had an illustrious music career. The Oklahoma native
sat in the Oklahoma City Orchestra as a child and has been
playing under spotlights ever since. Migrating to Austin in the
early 1970s, Crow fused his classical training to the raw
country & western music of his youth and developed a distinctive
style of fiddling that fit perfectly with the progressive
country sound dominating Austin during the 1970s. With countless
incarnations of his band and a successful music career spanning
several decades, Crow remains a top draw at Austin’s legendary
Broken Spoke, fiddling away to a packed dance floor.
In addition to his lengthy career as a professional musician and
his Texas Music Hall of Fame stardom, Crow has been instrumental
in teaching and coaching budding young musicians. Even during
his own youth, Alvin would gather the neighborhood boys together
and instruct each on the various instruments so that he could
play rock and roll music with his friends. Crow has since
developed and perfected a teaching method for instructing raw
beginners as young as eight on how to understand simple music
theory and begin actually playing rock and roll music. He has
been the Music Director and backbone for music camps and
year-round music programs here in Austin for close to 15 years
and has worked behind the scenes guiding young artists on their
paths toward careers as professional musicians.
